Drawing inspiration from wearable art in ancient cultures, mixed media artist and designer Frankie Slaughter takes her collage medium to another level by designing one-of-a-kind jackets. After living in Asia for nearly a decade, Frankie and her family returned to Virginia, where an appreciation of adornment emerged as a central theme in her work. Textures and forms which seemed ordinary to her in Asia became extraordinary for her here. Mixing and layering patterns and textures, Frankie combines textiles and ornaments from east and west, contemporary and vintage, blending the art and cultures from her travels with the time she spends living in both Richmond, Virginia, and Hong Kong.
